Track Your Kids With GPS
69Ever wish that there were better ways to keep track of your kids? Technology has not come up with the perfect solution yet, but listed below are a few products that may help.
Spark Nano
Although not specifically designed to track children, the Spark Nano is one of the newest smallest, and most capable GPS trackers available to the public today. Lightning GPS, maker of the Spark Nano, specializes in providing covert trackers to military and law enforcement. The Spark Nano requires no external connections or antennas. It functions on both GSM and GPRS networks and is advertised as as being "super sensitive". It can be hidden away in a purse, back-pack, or even a car glove box and still function.
The Spark Nano has the ability to create a "geofence", around a certain area. This is like a virtual circle, or line in the sand, around a fixed point. If the tracker leaves that area you can be notified instantly by text message or e-mail. The tracker features a monitor that alerts you if it exceeds a set speed. Information from The Spark nano can be viewed via your computer or Internet enabled cell phone.

LOK8U
LOK8U is a product that is already in the UK but coming to the U.S. soon. Here is a quote from their web page.
"num8 is the world’s first GPS locator device that has been specifically designed with children in mind. It will tell you exactly where your child is, whenever you feel you need to know - at home or even abroad."
I will list more here when it becomes available. For now go to lok8u.com for more information.
Google Latitude
Google Latitude is a service that you run on your phone that allows anyone you choose to see your location on their computer or internet enabled phone. It is not designed to track kids, but it might work very well for just that. Not all phones are supported. There is a list of supported phones here.
Its Not Spying
Unfortunately, none of these devices can be used very well without the cooperating of your kids. I think that this might be really difficult with kids of certain ages. In the future I am sure there will be even better gadgets, but I don't think that hiding their use from you kids is going to get any easier. And I am left asking myself, should I be hiding them from my kids?

Congratulations for being a hubnugget nominee.
I think it is important to keep improving on these systems to keep track of our kids. Two of my cousins children got lost in the woods overnight and if they only had a GPS that could have located them it would have saved much heartache. The helicopters could not locate them it was just too dark. I am so happy to say there was a happy ending. Wendy and Scott eventually found their own way out somehow by chance.
thanks for all the great information! I have chips implanted in my dogs--would love to have them also in my kids...is that too "big brother????
Gone are the days that the parents opened the back door and hollered for their kids to come home from play! Interesting. If one is a parent, I suppose these could be invaluable tools. Congratulations on your nomination to this week's HubNuggets! Good luck!
We have the most amazing technology these days. We can be alerted if our children leave a specified area, incredible! This would have helped me the day my 4 year old daughter and her friend thought it would be funny to hide from their Mommies. We were quite frantic when we found them behind the dumpster fence. (They never tried that again :D)
Thanks for the information, and congratulations on being nominated to HubNuggets!
Unfortunately, gone are the days when kids can explore their own (hopefully safe) neighborhood. Any of the devices above only work if they stay with the child or in the glove box. I'm all for having chips implanted same as is now available for dogs. And NO, in the case of a child who might die from exposure, or at the hands of a creep, it's NOT too "big brother".
Congrats on being nominated!
yeah I agree with JamaGenee on that. For the greater good of our children I see nothing wrong with keeping tabs on them including our spouses too! LOL
Whatever happened to walking into a film noir scene and hiring a gumshoe? ;)
But seriously, the implications of this technology is rather useful...just as long as we don't chip our kids. Those cause cancer even in your pets.
What about the chip implant in kids? I know that some store chain has a day that they offer it done here, is that just to id a body or a part of someone went found afterwards? The chip This coming from looking up auto parts and finding a site for a GPS unit...
Gps trackers work well especially when kids and teens are involved.
It's one thing not to trust your child when they tell you where they are, and another if they face any danger from creeps roaming towns, cities etc. A tracker is becoming a necessity.
I would like to share this to all parents this safety service that I'm using to track my kdis wherever they go.It's safekidzone mobile application that has panic button by just pressing the button, simultaneously alerts and mobilizes a select group of friends and family members that a child is in danger ,and if needed gets the emergency to nearest emergency services dispacther. This application also gives the exact location where the incident takes place. I use this to ensure the safety of my kids when they are alone and I find it very useful , check this out http://safekidzone.com/
